Watched the season premier of Downton Abbey yesterday.
And fashioned a dolls outfit inspired by cousin Rose.
It is so fun to work with felted wool.
Find 100% wool sweaters at thrift stores.
Then shrink them as small as possible!
(my last batch took 5 hot washings and dryings)
{be sure to add a few drops of dish soap to the wash}
and watch large adult-sized sweaters become child-size!
When the fibers have shrunken together
the sweater can be cut and used like felt,
without any need to finish the edges.
The hat was made with the cuff end of a sweater,
the only stitching involved was gathering it at the top.
(you can also just use a rubberband on the inside)
There is something so calming and domestic
sitting inside while its raining outside,
handstitching wool.
I made some doll purses (or book bags) also,
and other doll clothes for a couple of darling girls.
What beautiful work you have done Violet! what a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI just love the blue...
I cannot wait to see what else you have fashioned.
blessings,
Penny
I missed you all day long, here on my last day at home. But I knew you were up to ALL GOOD, and here is the result. HI PENNY, who I see is here, and has also been working away!
ReplyDeleteHow fantastic that this TV series is inspiring us all in some way or another; I even started to look around my house today for old sweaters to start this process, but I don't have any! Violet, your choices are so beautiful, and the recipients of your handiwork are so blessed! LOVE THIS COLOR!
I go back to work tomorrow, but it's still FRIGID OUT THERE!
This is a lovely tribute to Downton Abby. Every little doll should be so well dressed. Your felting is wonderful. Happy New Year Dear...
