Dreaming of White Ice Skates (and a Give-Away!)

Vintage White Ice Skates
In a Vignette of Whites and Creams
-
There is such G R A C E and B E A U T Y in the gliding
~ across the glistening ice ~
-
Oh how I wanted to be one of those girls
who twirled and danced and swirled
upon the frozen pond.
-
Those who do it well
appear to make no effort,
but it must take hours and hours and hours
of practice to have it look so natural.
-
I actually only tried it once or twice at a rink.
I could roller skate
So wouldn't I be able to ice skate too?
(apparently not)
I could not even stand up without my feet sliding out from under me.
-
Perhaps if I'd tried more
or had lessons... it could have happened.
-
Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates
was one of my favorite childhood books,
and in the movie, was it Danny Kaye who played Hans?
-
The Romance of Ice Skating
has always stayed in my heart.
So when I came upon these vintage skates
I knew they would be wonderful winter decor.
-
And one day I was inspired to set up a still life
and photograph these nostalgic skates
-
After printing them
they get a touch of glitter and a jewel.
They are available in my new Etsy shop

I would like to give one of these prints
"Ice Skates and Grace"
to one of my blog readers
-
The winner can choose this print
or another item in my shop.
Just go take a peek and leave a comment on this post
telling me of your two favorite items there
-
Become a follower too if you want,
but it's not a requirement!
-
The winner will be randomly chosen on Monday morning.
(This will be a short entry time so I can get the item mailed this coming week)
If you order something from the shop,
you may choose another 'free' item should you be the winner.
-
And I'd love to hear if you know how (and enjoy) ice skating!!!

Oh Violet,
I do not enter giveaways, I think you might know that, but I would be honoured to receive one of your prints. I would be happiest with the little pink bird to match my pink cottage.
I'm anxiously awaiting my cards from your sweet ETSY shop.
I spotted some new ones tonight too that I LOVE.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your work of art Violet.
Maybe lucky number 1 comment will be the one.
Good luck to all my blogger friends.
Love Claudie

Oh dearest, I do hope you go to see Doré's theatres...she blew me AWAY this morning when our posts went up in tandem; what creativity she has and the theatres are made of whatever she can get her talented hands on...it is a must visit.

BACK LATER! Anita

I forgot to tell you that I do know how to skate. I took lessons, and had to perform during Christmas. I truly think living in Canada had something to do with it. It's also an Eastern thing. Randy was born and raised in Van. BC and didn't know how to skate. Now he does.
I still cannot master those pirouettes.
We are on our way to Montreal for a little shopping and a late lunch.
happy sat.

I love the Bonjour cards. The pure joy on the little ones faces warm my heart. Violet, too hard to pick really, they are all wonderful. The cowgirls, the epitomy of girl friendship, the sparrow with the crown is lovely as well. For that matter anything with glitter works! :) And a beautiful pair of skates, every girl must have one...forget the Jimmy Choos!

O Violet thank you for visiting me so I could get to know you much better. I love the bird art so soulful and way more bird like then my art :)
I love to ice skate, I have not been since I was young I use to skate in Washington state when I lived there as a teen. You make me long for a pair of skates, a new pair of ice skates would be dreamy :)
I am going to make an effort to go skate and see how well I spin, I would like to see if all those ice skating lessons stayed with me.

If you looked at my site you would see I paint and more Trompe L'oiel in style muralist in a sort of style.
Your work is breathtaking and the love of birds shows in your art, Gods little creatures my favorite his little sparrows, God is good and he has blessed you with passion and talent. :)

Please count this new follower in on your Giveaway!
See you soon.
Blessings

Hi Violet! What a lovely post about ice skating. I couldn't resist recently picking up a brand new pair of toddler ice skates for my 3 year old granddaughter Cate as one of her Christmas Gifts. I found them in a consignment shop, never worn and in the box with the tags on and all. I can't wait to see her Mommy take her on the ice. Your paintings are exquisite as ALWAYS! I love the gildedsparrow print with the little sparrow and the crown. What a TALENT you have...I'm glad you have not buried it, but instead have been putting it to good use! ;) I need to do some Etsy Shopping with you and Anita! Hugs friend...Hope to stop by soon! Blessings to you on this CHRISTmas season! ;) xoxo ~CC Catherine
